Main Street Momence will host its Annual Meeting & Awards Celebration on Wednesday, October 10th. The highlight of the event will be the formal recognition of numerous program volunteers and downtown investors for their efforts on behalf of historic downtown this past year. Momence is also celebrating 13 Years as an official Main Street Community.


Main Street Volunteer of the Year 2018- Helen O'Cull

Helen O' Cull (shown ) will be recognized as the 2018 Volunteer of the Year  for the many hours she has volunteered for Main Street Momence.   Helen serves as the program historian, tracking articles and all news concerning Main Street activities and is their Senior Volunteer Coordinator. You can find Helen passing out candy at the Halloween Festival, greeting visitors in the Warming House during the Christmas Gathering or stuffing envelopes with her Senior Volunteer Team too.    "Helen is an amazing woman, Main Street's biggest fan and her unwavering support is much appreciated!" stated Janine Loftus, MSM's Executive Director. In addition to volunteering for Main Street, Helen's past accomplishments include:  President of the Momence Woman's Club & American Legion Auxiliary, member of the VFW Auxiliary and volunteer for the First United Methodist church.  Mrs. O' Cull  also served as an election judge for many years.   Helen is the wife of the late Bruce O' Cull-local photographer, former employee of Carter Wallace, and past Momence Fire Chief.  The entire community is fortunate to have Helen O' Cull leading the way to a better downtown and city!


Main Street Volunteer of the Year 2017- Mary Cantwell

Main Street is proudly recognizing its' 2017 Volunteer of the Year- Mary Cantwell.  Mary (shown) has served on the Design Committee for over a decade.  Her positive and can do attitude is contagious.  "Mary is Johnny-on-the-Spot for any project involving beautifying downtown Momence. Her creativity and decorating skills are much appreciated on the design committee," said Fran Le Beau, Board President and Design Chair. Planting flowers, decorating scarecrows and storefront windows are just a few the ways Mary has given of her time and talents.  Mary does not stop with beautification projects however as she annually helps to raise money for the program by selling split the pot and raffle tickets too.  Mary also participates each year during the Tree Lighting Ceremony sharing another one of her gifts- her lovely singing voice as she serenades the crowd at the Christmas Gathering- a community family tradition.

Fun, dedicated and caring are perfect words to describe  sisters Diane Rumback (right) & Cindy Keagle (left), (shown) Main Street Momence's Rookie Volunteers of the Year.  This dynamic duo has hit the ground running in

2018.  In addition to volunteering in the Main Street Office weekly, these gals joined the Cruise Night Crew and the Miracle on Washington Street Christmas Gathering Committee too.  There isn't any job too  big or too small these new additions to Main Street's Team.

Other awards being presented are Hall of Fame- Jane Johnson, Les Du Montelle Award of Exellence for Downtown Building Rehabilitation-Off the Vine, President's Award- Steve & Celeste Puglise for the former Du Montelle Building rehabilitation,  Interior Rehab & Design Award-Diligent Innovations, Best Business Neighbor-Barb Starkey of Retro Art Deco Inc. at Apothecary Arts & Antiques, Community Partner-Momence Packing/Johnsonville Foods, Outstanding Signage- Chipman Public Library & River Valley Animal Rescue-Ceasar's Palace, and Team Extraordinaire- the Cruise Night Crew.  MSM’s Annual Meeting & Awards Celebration will be held Wednesday, October 10th at the Minne Monesse Golf Club dining room.  All MSM volunteers, financial partners and friends and family of the award winners are invited and encouraged to attend.  A hot buffet will be served, Social Hour is 6 pm, dinner 6:30 pm and the awards will begin at 7:30 pm.  $25 may be paid at the door.
